Local businesses at Waikiki Market have received counterfeit money from customers warning others about the props that are being used around the island.

HONOLULU (Island News) — Small businesses in Waikiki are using their experience to warn others about more fake money circulating on Oahu.

At least three businesses at Waikiki Market along Kuhio Avenue said they received counterfeit $100 bills from customers on Tuesday evening. Each incident was caught on camera within an hour of each other.

“A lady and a guy came in and used fake prop money, $100 bills,” explained Shingo Nakajima, owner of Franks & Fries. “We weren’t able to realize in time.”

The fast food restaurant lost $200 after Nakajima said the suspects used two fake movie prop bills to put in an order, before asking for change.
