CHICO, CALIF- Through a program called Operation Slow Roll, the Chico Police Department is recovering dozens of stolen shopping carts.
Will Clark, a Chico Police officer with the Target Unit, says the unit started Operation Slow Roll after the city started enforcing shopping cart laws in 2023.
We told you back in September 2023 when the Chico City Council passed an ordinance that stated any cart outside of its immediate business property or premises — is a public concern. The city says this is because stolen carts usually contain trash and other debris that can be possibly hazardous.
“Our job is to make sure that we help the community to make sure it’s clean and safe, and so that way we can take these carts and store get them back to their proper owners,” says Clark.
