Report for Rapid City first 6 months of Sales Tax | On TV [Video]

RAPID CITY, S.D. – Members of Rapid City’s Legal & Finance Committee signed off on the collections through June. Collections are up 3% from the first six months of last year.

So far this year, the city has collected nearly $41.2 million. Tourism taxes come in short by around $30,000 but could turn around with the nice weather in July and August.

“What we’re hoping for is that July and August tourism numbers hopefully more than make up the difference for June,” said Rapid City Finance Director Daniel Ainslie. “But really, I think what it goes to show is that our economy continues to be strong. It’s not necessarily roaring,”

The city had an increase in general fund sales taxes in the first half of the year. Money coming in from the tourism sector accounting for a significant portion of that revenue.
