Resident hospitalized after fire, explosions in Gloucester home [Video]

One resident was hospitalized Wednesday after a fire and explosion inside a Gloucester, Massachusetts, home.The fire at 20 Marina Drive was first reported at 10:39 a.m. and officials said it may have started while someone was welding. Fire officials said several flammable oxygen tanks burned inside the garage, causing small explosions.Firefighters said they used two hose lines to knock down the main body of the fire and ultimately contained it to the attached garage. That part of the structure will be a total loss and the rest of the home suffered smoke damage. The injured resident was taken to Beverly Hospital for treatment.“Crews did an outstanding job attending to the victim and knocking the fire down quickly,” Chief Eric Smith said in a statement. “We’re hoping his injuries are minor and that he is released soon.”The family will be displaced because of the damage.
