Review of Madison Boulevard-Slaughter Road intersection aims to identify fixes [Video]

A busy interchange in west Huntsville will undergo a thorough review to pinpoint ways to reduce congestion.

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — City officials have approved a $5.4 million funding agreement to address congestion at one of west Huntsville’s busiest intersections.

The project, spearheaded by the Huntsville Area Metropolitan Planning Organization, will evaluate potential improvements at Madison Boulevard and Slaughter Road, including additional turn lanes and signal upgrades.

“Making this intersection safer and more efficient is a project I’m proud to support,” said Council President John Meredith, who represents District 5. “This will impact the lives of District 5 residents in a positive way.”

The Alabama Department of Transportation will oversee the comprehensive review, which includes design work, right-of-way acquisition, utility relocation and construction.

The MPO will fund 80 percent of the project — a contribution of $4.3 million — with the city contributing the remaining $1.1 million.
