Roadwork is coming to this Allentown street. Delays could last through 2026 [Video]

Drivers taking South Fourth St. in Allentown can expect delays and restrictions through 2026, Pennsylvania Department of Transportation says.

Restrictions are scheduled to start as soon as July 9 between Wyoming Street and south of Emmaus Avenue. The project is expected to wrap up by October 2026, said PennDot.

Improvements to Route 145 will include:

  • adding a center turn lane between Brookdale/South Fifth Street and Wyoming Street,
  • adding a right turn lane from northbound South Fourth Street onto West Emmaus Avenue,
  • adding a left turn lane from West Susquehanna Street onto southbound South Fourth Street;
  • intersection radius improvements at South Fourth and Brookdale/South Fifth streets;
  • construction of ADA compliant curbing and ramping;
  • traffic signal upgrades,
  • drainage improvements
  • and new pavement markings.

The project is estimated to cost about $7.4 million once complete, the state agency stated. Kriger Construction, Inc. of Scranton, will serve as the general contractor.
