Ruff Start Rescue visited KARE 11 Saturday to discuss growing demand on organizations like theirs, and how people who love animals can help.

The big-hearted folks at Ruff Start Rescue like to think they’re one of those worthy causes, dealing with overwhelming demand to save and place pets in the Twin Cities and greater Minnesota.
Ruff Start says In September of 2023 they had 251 owner applications to surrender a pet. This September, the rescue processed 361 and took in 70 more dogs and cats than last year. Rescue organizers say in 2024 they project Ruff Start will save more than 3,400 companion animals, perform 1,750 surgeries and reach over 1,000 people with educational programs.
