Sac State offering guaranteed admission for former foster youth [Video]

Those who meet CSU eligibility requirements will be automatically granted admission starting in Fall 2025.

Through the university’s new Guardian Scholars Promise initiative (GSP), those who meet California State University (CSU) eligibility requirements will be automatically granted admission, starting Fall 2025.

University President Luke Wood and Vice President for Student Affairs Aniesha Mitchell made the announcement to high school and community college students at the Guardian Scholars Bridge Conference on Nov. 13. A press release from the university says the initiative reflects its “commitment to providing a supportive environment for students from foster care backgrounds.”

Wood, who has shared his own experiences growing up in foster care, has made it a priority to increase enrollment and graduation rates among former foster youth during his Sacramento State tenure.

“We want to signal to foster youth everywhere that Sacramento State cares about you and your academic goals,” Wood said in the press release.
