CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) – A local school garden and community pavilion are now open in a downtown Charleston park thanks to work by non-profits, the city and Clemson architecture students.
The Clemson Design Center in Charleston partnered with the Green Heart Project, the Charleston Parks Conservancy and the City of Charleston to build the pavilion and garden at Simmons Park.
The garden will be for educational use by the neighboring Meeting Street School.
Green Heart fundraised to pay for most of the project and the City of Charleston has budgeted money to work with Clemson Design Center on one project every year.
Payton Davy, Kevin Arnold and William Scott are three of the few dozen students who ultimately worked on the project.
“Every little detail, I know who worked on it and how much time they spent on it and all the effort went into every decision,” Arnold says.
