The Pittsburgh Steelers have named their starting quarterback for their Week 2 matchup against the Denver Broncos.
Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin said the team will start Justin Fields, last week’s starting quarterback, against the Broncos. NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport shared the news Tuesday morning via Twitter/X.
Veteran quarterback Russell Wilson missed Week 1’s contest against the Atlanta Falcons due to a calf tightness. He was initially scheduled to start against the Falcons until the calf issue arose late last week.
Tomlin issued a statement to the media, saying that while he named Fields the starter, he isn’t ruling out Wilson just yet.
“But as I sit here today, we’re preparing as if Justin (Fields) is going to be our quarterback. I think that’s the appropriate way to do it. Speculation is a waste of time. Russell’s hurt.”
In the meantime, Wilson will be monitored, and his status to suit up …
