Students Explore Military Careers at Fleet Week San Diego [Video]

Fleet Week San Diego offers free public access starting Friday, showcasing STEM careers and military demos, inspiring students and honoring our sea services.

SAN DIEGO — It’s Fleet Week San Diego!

Fleet Week is a time for the Navy, local Marines, Coast Guard, and National Guard to showcase the work they do to protect our nation every day. While the public is invited to attend Friday through Monday, Thursday’s event focused on students.

Members of the military offered students interested in STEM—Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math—a chance to explore the careers these skills can lead to within the armed forces.

“They showed us these night vision goggles and how they can navigate in the dark,” said Kayla Buxton, a freshman at Olympian High School in Chula Vista.

Students had the opportunity to tour a mobile military surgical hospital and watch a Coast Guard rescue demonstration on the water.
