Taco Bell is adding a surprising limited-time menu item [Video]

(CNN) – Taco Bell is stepping away from its Mexican-inspired cuisine to start offering chicken nuggets for a limited time.

The chicken will be marinated in a zesty jalapeño buttermilk then coated in tortilla chips and breadcrumbs.

Taco Bell is also introducing new dips for the nuggets, including a tangy signature bell sauce, a jalapeño-infused honey mustard, and a spicy ranch.

Taco Bell admits nugget loyalty runs deep, dominated by McDonald’s, Wendy’s and Chick-fil-A, but the chain is working to expand its poultry portfolio as younger eaters prefer chicken over beef.

The chicken nuggets will be available starting December 19.
