Local hemp businesses said without THCA sales, their shops would have to close their doors.
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — A Tennessee judge decided hemp products with THCA could remain on shelves for now, after the Tennessee Department of Agriculture tried to make the sale of certain products illegal.
In April 2023, a new law was passed in Tennessee that aimed at limiting and monitoring the sale of hemp products. It also granted the TDA to make rules on what local hemp stores were allowed to sell.
The Tennessee judge said she needed more information about the products before making a decision, which was pushed to Feb. 18.
WBIR spoke to Travis McKinney, the owner of the BLOM shop, which sells mainly THCA products. McKinney said he is involved in the lawsuit and feels confident the judge will rule in the favor of small businesses in the hemp industry.
