Texas crawfish season typically runs January to July a peak of March to May. While prices may be down this year, they could be in short supply to start the season.
HOUSTON — There’s good news for anyone who’s ready to dive into some crawfish.
Mudbugs are already on sale at some places across town, and the prices are expected to be about half of what they were last year. You may remember earlier this year, the drought and summer heat led to a less-than-usual harvest, upping prices to about $12 to $13 per pound. The drier it gets outside, the deeper crawfish burrow for relief from the heat, according to Brandi Keller with Texas A&M Agrilife. Also, hard soil keeps them from successfully burrowing underground and resurfacing.
