The event started back in 1981 and is still going strong through five decades.
HAMPTON, Va. — It’s that time of the year in January for the Virginia Duals. Some of the best high school and college wrestlers up and down the coast and midwest will descend upon Hampton Coliseum for the 44th edition of the event on Friday and Saturday. Many consider the Duals homegrown.
“I would consider the Virginia Duals a Poquoson event”, says Islanders wrestling coach Eric Decker. “Founded by Poquoson people. Obviously it takes a lot of volunteers, but very much considered a helm event for us.”
Grassfield head coach Patrick Shuler added, “It’s a historic event. I was competing at the Virginia Duals when I was at the University of Wyoming”.
Five divisions that includes three high schools and two colleges. There those who remember the event from its inception.
