SYRACUSE, N.Y. — It’s that time of year again when The Great New York State Fair kicks off.

The fair starts next Wednesday, and many are gearing up for the big event, including the 800-pound butter sculpture.

The countdown begins for the grand reveal of the 56th Annual Butter Sculpture on Tuesday, Aug. 20, just a day before the fair opens.

“Over the weekend, sculptors Jim Victor and Marie Pelton unloaded their tools and began creating the annual sculpture. Prior to arriving at the Fairgrounds, the duo spent many hours working off-site to build wooden and steel frames called armatures that support the weight of the butter. Over the course of 11 days on the Fairgrounds, Victor and Pelton will mold, carve and spread the butter into a work of art,” a release from the American Dairy Association North East stated.
