Life Scout Sophia Moland of Troop 219 in Rusk County, Texas, is working toward her Eagle Scout rank with a holiday project benefiting Henderson Interchurch Ministries, a local donation center. She will host a free community Christmas dinner at Henderson’s Civic Center for those facing food insecurity.
Sophia has a passion for cooking and has raised funds through her small business, Sophia’s Gluten-Free Bake Shop. Local businesses are also contributing food and treats for the dinner.
“I chose to do this because I love cooking,” she says. “It’s been a passion of mine since I became gluten free. I couldn’t really find food for myself, so I decided to make myself food. I’ve never been food insecure, but knowing what it’s like not to have the best food at the best times, to bring someone a warm meal, especially during the holidays, and a high-quality meal was important to me.”
