Tow truck drivers say they expected worse after ice storm [Video]

FAIRFAX, Iowa (KCRG) – With all the ice on the roads, tow truck drivers say they’ve had to bail a lot of people out of slippery situations.

“You start slamming on your breaks, the ice is gonna take you whichever way it wants to,” said Colten Aphelbeck, Riggs Towing and Recovery tow truck driver.

When the roads are messy, towing companies expect the most business.

“Front wheel drive, all wheel drive, four wheel drive, rear wheel drive, it doesn’t matter with the ice. No matter what you’ve got it’s not gonna work on ice,” said Alex Langer, Riggs Towing and Recovery tow truck driver.

Langer went out on several calls Saturday, but he said the fact that some of the company’s tow trucks stayed in the bay Saturday is a good thing.
