Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) in Bancroft, Ont. are warning drivers of a fake tow truck company that charges for services but never shows up.
Police say the warning comes after they received multiple reports from people alleging they’re “being ripped-off when they call a supposedly local number found online for a tow truck.”
According to the reports, police say, drivers have made very high payments by credit card over the phone before the arrival of a tow truck.
“Then, either no tow truck ever shows up, or a real local company arrives. The local operators are either paid a small percentage by the initial company or they must charge for services they provide,” the OPP warned on X.
