Two years after a defamation lawsuit was filed against former Congressman Denver Riggleman by a corporation over published statements about the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol, both sides are awaiting a Nelson County judge’s ruling on the litigation’s next steps.
Judge Michael Doucette heard arguments in Nelson Circuit Court from attorneys Jan. 17 on pre-trial motions in the suit against Riggleman, who formerly represented Virginia’s 5th Congressional District, and co-defendants Henry Holt & Company, Inc. and Macmillan Pub. Group, LLC. Another hearing recently was held Oct. 30 in Nelson Circuit Court on the matter, according to court records.
