ATLANTA — A former Georgia senator was selected by President-elect Donald Trump to serve a significant role in his administration.

David Perdue, a United States senator from 2015 to 2021, was appointed by Trump to be the next United States ambassador to China.

“As a Fortune 500 CEO, who had a 40-year International business career, and served in the U.S. Senate, David brings valuable expertise to help build our relationship with China,” Trump said in a statement on Truth Social.

Trump said that Perdue has lived in Singapore and Hong Kong while working in Asia and China for a chunk of his career. Perdue was the CEO of apparel brand Reebok for a period of time.
