Donald Trump’s lawsuit against Iowa pollster Anna Selzer and the Des Moines Register is heading to federal court. An Iowa professor took weighs in on the case.
DES MOINES, Iowa — Local 5 continues to follow the status of President Elect Donald Trump’s lawsuit against pollster J. Ann Selzer, the Des Moines Register, The Tribune and Gannett.
Trump has sued those involved with the Iowa poll conducted by Selzer in a case that now moves to federal court. Court documents accuse Selzer and the Des Moines Register of intentionally attempting to influence the election.
University of Iowa professor Smantha Barbas said this lawsuit is unique. She believes it will be difficult for Trump’s administration to prove the newspaper misled or deceived customers.
“This is a really novel theory, but publishing a study or an investigation or a poll that turns out to be inaccurate is not intentionally fraudulent,” Barbas said.
