SACRAMENTO, Calif. — On his first day in office, President Donald Trump signed an executive order rolling back Biden-era electric vehicle (EV) policies, leaving the future of federal tax credits for EV purchases in doubt.

The $7,500 federal tax credit has been a crucial incentive for buyers of qualifying new and used electric vehicles. At Maita Chevrolet in Elk Grove, Business Development Manager Dante Declarador says the credit is a significant factor for customers choosing electric cars.

“Right now, we’re trying to sell as many EVs as possible while it does last,” Declarador said. About 25% of his dealership’s new car sales are electric.

The tax credit applies to models like the Blazer EV, and Declarador says the savings make a big difference.
