Tucson in process of changing EV parking codes [Video]

TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) – The City of Tucson’s Planning and Development Services Department held a public comment meeting to hear community members’ thoughts on potential changes to the city code when it comes to electric vehicle (EV) parking rules.

When Tucson City Mayor Regina Romero and city council voted to have the city be “EV ready,” they also voted for a one year follow up to see how the codes were holding up.

Staff identified two areas of concern – the current rules are resulting in opposite effects than what were originally intended when it comes to site expansions, and parking lot reductions.

The issue of site expansions came to light when The Loft Cinema, during it’s 5,300 square foot expansion project, was notified that it would have to add 8 more charging stations in addition to the four already available in the parking lot.
