U.S. Treasurer Chief visits Alaska, gives support to small businesses | Homepage [Video]

Celebrations are underway as the U.S. Treasury chief is visiting Alaska and the University of Alaska Anchorage. She’s here to support what’s called the Small Business Credit Initiative, to help tribal communities.

“Communities that perhaps have been overlooked or at least underfunded in some of these areas. We’re hoping that it stimulates the economy, not just in and tribal communities, but also in the communities that surround our tribal community,” said U.S. Treasurer Chief Lynn Malerba. 

“They will allow Alaska Native businesses, rural businesses, statewide entrepreneurs as well, not just those who are in rural Alaska to be able to have access to capital to start small businesses,” says Nicole Borromeo from Alaska Native Federation. 

The money to help start those small businesses is expected to be both beneficial to rural Alaskans and their communities, since some areas do not have access to banks or lenders.
