A University of Alabama student, Kareem Badawi, was among those killed in a deadly attack on Bourbon Street in New Orleans on New Year’s Day.
Kareem Badawi, a UA student, was one of the victims when a pickup truck drove through a crowd of pedestrians in New Orleans. The attack, which also left around 30 others injured, occurred around 3:15 a.m. Wednesday as people celebrated the New Year.
In a statement, University of Alabama President Stuart R. Bell confirmed Badawi’s death. “I grieve alongside family and friends of Kareem in their heartbreaking loss,” Bell said. “Our staff have been actively engaged in supportive outreach, and the Office of Student Care and Well Being is available at 205-348-2461 or [email protected].
