UMKC students prepare to start college as they unpack dorm rooms [Video]

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – Students in Kansas City are preparing to start college in a big way as they unpack their dorm rooms and head to convocation.

Students at the University of Missouri – Kansas City had a big day on Friday, Aug. 16, as they began to unpack moving trucks, vans and cars to fill their dorm rooms this semester – a huge moment for any incoming freshman.

UMKC Chancellor C. Mauli Agrawal, Ph.D., was there to greet students as they arrived. They also had helpers usher them in during what can be a nerve-racking event for some.

“Greet them with a smile, let them know no question is a dumb question, that it’s everyone’s first time and it’s going to be a hectic experience so having someone there to support you is helpful,” said UMKC junior Angel Kimera.

Freshmen are set to attend convocation on Saturday as classes are scheduled to begin on Monday.
