US Consumer Product Safety Commission offers safety tips for families [Video]

OLYMPIA, Wash. – The US Consumer Product Safety Commission urged families to be safe this holiday season, warning that holiday cooking and decorating can introduce potential hazards to the home.

According to the safety commission, non-motorized scooters caused the largest share of toy-related injuries in 2023, with 53,000 incidents recorded. The commission encouraged parents to be careful with scooters and small toys that pose choking hazards.

“Safety and protecting our children should be a top priority this holiday season,” Chair Alex Hoehn-Saric said.

Safety tips include always including a helmet when gifting a bike or scooter, never leaving food unattended when cooking and neve using an unsecured method like a chair to hang decorations.

The US Consumer Safety holiday page includes more information and advice on staying safe over the winter months.
