VA to launch campaign encouraging veterans to seek care [Video]

As part of the campaign, the VA said it plans to reach out to the approximately 50,000 unenrolled veterans in Missouri and Illinois who served.

ST. LOUIS — The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs is starting an outreach campaign to encourage veterans to seek care for mental health issues associated with exposure to explosions.

In a news release, the department said the outreach will include text messages and emails directly to veterans and other outreach efforts. The release said the campaign comes after “reports of concerns from Veterans about health issues – including mental health challenges and thoughts of suicide – potentially related to repeated blasts and head trauma.”

The VA said enrolled veterans can access specialty screenings and services to address any health issues related to blast exposure, including potentially related to repeated blasts and head trauma from low-level artillery blasts, IEDs, missile launches, heavy fire and other blasts.
