A Vermont nonprofit is speaking out against what they call an “unconscionable betrayal” after President Donald Trump signed an executive order that suspended the country’s refugee resettlement program.The Vermont Afghan Alliance released a statement following the news, saying the organization is “devastated” to learn of the program’s suspension.On Wednesday, refugees who had been approved to travel to the United States before a deadline next week suspending the program have had their travel plans canceled by the Trump administration.Trump paused the program this week as part of a series of executive orders cracking down on immigration.
