PARKERSBURG, W.Va. (WTAP) – For years, the City of Vienna has been waiting for a Federal Lands Access Program grant that they plan to use for a kayak launch on 12th street or at Spencer’s Landing.
They received the $280,000 grant but the funding from the government was causing a hold up to start the project.
With no kayak launch, it is hard for the City of Vienna to hold events that would require a launch into the water.
One city council member offered the city his boat ramp, which could be used as a kayak launch, as a temporary option for the residents.
Vienna Mayor Randy Rapp thought the temporary launch would be an affordable, effective way to gauge interest, usage and location for the permanent kayak launch.
