Why a diver volunteers to search for drowning victims, despite the danger [Video]

For families whose loved ones are missing in water, the search can be long and painful. Northern California diver Juan Heredia volunteers to search for drowning victims to bring their families closure. In June, Heredia got a call from a family in Stockton, California asking for help. “We got a call from the family saying that one of the family drowned here on Monday and if I can come and help them to find him,” said Heredia. The next day, he drove to search for Gabriel Castañeda, a 38-year-old Stockton hiker who vanished after slipping in an area known as Cleo’s Bath and being swept down a waterfall. The conditions were “too dangerous” for the Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office search and rescue divers, so Heredia volunteered for the task. “I would like to give closure to the family, and I decide to jump anyways,” said Heredia.
