Wood County BOE files petition for injunction against WVSSAC [Video]

PARKERSBURG, W.Va. (WTAP) – The Wood County Board of Education has filed a petition for emergency injunction release against the West Virginia Secondary School Activities Commission.

The filing comes after the WVSSAC reclassified several schools across West Virginia, just 17 days before the 2024 football season was scheduled to start. Thus, causing issues with the football teams’ points system towards the state playoff rankings.

The high school football season was scheduled to begin on August 26, 2024. However, the WVSSAC reclassified 11 schools on August 12 and reclassified an additional 11 schools on August 16, about two weeks before the start of the season.

The court documents state that schools across the state made their game schedules long before August 2024, and these schedules were built out to “maximize each school’s opportunity to accumulate points toward the state football playoff rankings.”
