AT&Ts GUMBO project brings high-speed internet to underserved in West Baton Rouge [Video]

WEST BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – Over 500 homes and small businesses in West Baton Rouge Parish will now benefit from the completion of the first GUMBO or Granting Unserved Municipalities Broadband Opportunities program.

The completion of the project on Monday is one of thirteen projects that’ll provide broadband and high-speed internet to areas in need, said president of AT&T Louisiana David Aubrey.

“We see the demand in our network and we know that in this area, West Baton Rouge Parish, it’s growing,” he said. “We’ve added more than 400 customer locations in this unserved and underserved area.”

The services are part of AT&T’s $22 million project with the state to bring broadband services to rural communities.

State officials who grew up in the area emphasize that this will impact the community in many ways.
