BANGOR, Maine (WABI) – Ret Talbot is an award winning journalist whose career began working as a mountaineering and fly-fishing guide, freelance writer and English teacher.
During his time as a freelance writer his assignments took him all over the place where he covered stories in very remote corners of the world. His current work zeros-in on the interactions between humans and marine ecosystems.
Some of his projects brought him to the Gulf of Maine where he would interview fishers, fisheries managers, politicians, scientists, environmentalists, and other stakeholders about fisheries issues at the intersection of sustainability and science.
In his newest book, “Chasing Shadows,” Talbot teams up with shark biologist Greg Skomal to cover the return of the white shark to the western North Atlantic.
Talbot often collaborates with his wife, Karen Talbot, who is a scientific illustrator known for her work with fishes on the coast of Maine.
They also love inviting people to their home-based gallery and studio in Rockland, Maine.
