Black History Month: How the Swift Factory is helping Black entrepreneurs thrive [Video]

HARTFORD, CT (WFSB) – Eyewitness News got a closer look at how an old factory building in Hartford is helping Black entrepreneurs thrive.

The “Swift Factory” is helping turn dreams into reality for small businesses.

“I make the best guacamole in the country. I would say the universe, but I’m going to remain humble,” said Nicola Poplin, owner of Pop’s Famous Guac.

Poplin is proud of the product she makes.

Her guacamole quickly became popular among friends and family, so she decided to start selling it, or as she likes to say, “So I became a guac dealer,” said Poplin.

“I love guacamole. It’s really helped me with my weight loss journey. And so I’m really honored. I think I might be the first and only Black female guacamole producer in the country,” Poplin said.

Her Pop’s Famous Guac is sold at Geissler’s Supermarket and she makes it right out of the Swift Factory building in the north …
