COCONINO COUNTY, AZ (AZFamily) — The Forestry Department reports that 75% of fires in Arizona are caused by humans.

Firefighters with the Coconino County National Forest have been busy this year putting out small fires that have been human-caused and could have been prevented.

Campfires are a staple of camping and great for keeping warm in the woods and roasting marshmallows. However, when mismanaged or not put out properly, they could become ground zero for a wildfire.

Nearly four months into the year, the Coconino National Forest has already responded to several small fires started by abandoned campfires.

Thankfully, their crews put the fires out quickly, but under drier and windier conditions — fires like these can quickly get out of hand.
