Chicago police to boost air power before DNC [Video]

(NEWSRADIO) – The Chicago Police Department is getting more air power ahead of this summer’s Democratic National Convention.

CPD confirms the city has a signed contract for one 429 Bell Helicopter and two 407 Bell helicopters.

The 429 is expected to be delivered in advance of the DNC in August and is funded by related grant funding, a police spokesman said. Crain’s Chicago Business reported the cost of the 429 at $11 million.

Chicago elected officials have stressed the need for tight security at this summer’s political convention, where President Joe Biden is expected to be nominated.

The two 407s are expected by the end of the year and will be funded by grant money from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Urban Area Security Initiative.
