Delivery apps Getir and Gorillas to quit UK with 1,500 jobs at risk [Video]

Delivery firm Getir will quit the UK – as well as Germany, the Netherlands and the US – with 1,500 jobs at the British arm at risk.

The business also owns the Gorillas brand, which will close in the UK as well.

The Turkish business was once valued at $12 billion, but has struggled since the pandemic amid mounting losses. In a funding round in September of last year, its valuation was cut to $2.5 billion.

In 2021, Getir signed a three-year sponsorship deal with Tottenham Hotspur that saw the brand name featured on the front of the club’s training kits. It was Spurs’ first-ever front-of-training-shirt sponsorship.

Today, it said it would close all of its non-Turkish operations to focus on its home country, which brings in 93% of its revenue.

It said: “The company will focus on its core market of Turkey, where it sees the biggest potential for long-term sustainable growth”.
