Feds join big companies on online child exploitation safety blitz [Video]

PHOENIX (AZFamily) — Stranger danger is a rapidly growing problem, especially within the walls of your own home. Recent data from The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children shows online child exploitation reports jumped 360% in the past decade.

Not surprising with the rise in kids using technology.

On Wednesday, the federal government announced a new initiative to combat the alarming trend called the Know 2 Protect Campaign. And there are some big names involved.

The Department of Homeland Security is joining companies like Google, YouTube, Meta, Roblox and other major companies and organizations to get the word out and prosecute offenders.

This comes on the heels of the NCMEC releasing an interactive video entitled No Escape Room, showing what a child goes through when they’re being sextorted. Sextortion is when someone sends nude or pornographic photos, and the recipient threatens to leak them unless the victim sends money.

There have been numerous cases of teen suicide across the country related to sextortion.
