Flint Fire Department responds to burn at former Flint Northern High School | [Video]

FLINT, Mich. (WJRT)- The City of Flint Fire Department was forced to let a burn at the former Flint Northern High School continue Sunday morning.

Battalion Chief Mark Kovach told ABC12 that the fire was burning hot and billowing black smoke when they arrived on-scene around 8:30.

Crews found several burning rooms on the top floor.

After extinguishing one, they found several steel support beams glowing red and starting to warp, an indication, according to Kovach, that the fire had been burning for some time before they arrived.

According to Kovach, firefighters made the call that the building was structurally unsound and that they had to retreat.

He told ABC12 they will be returning to the building later on Sunday after the fire has cooled down to attempt entry from other points of Flint Northern.
