INDIANAPOLIS — Starting Friday night into Saturday morning, Indianapolis metro police will begin cracking down on a statewide curfew for minors.
The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department announced on Thursday that this is all part of an effort to reduce the amount of juvenile crime across the Circle City. Officers will make their rounds across downtown to make sure minors are not out past curfew.
While police said they do not want to have to take anyone into custody, they say they will if that is what is necessary. And while those juvenile offenders could face a “status offense,” parents and community leaders FOX59/CBS4 spoke with said this is a step in the right direction.
“I think it is for the protection of the juveniles,” said Rev. Charles Harrison with the Indy TenPoint Coalition.
