OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) – The Douglas County Fire Chiefs canceled the latest burn ban on Wednesday.

The most recent ban went into effect at 6 a.m. last Thursday.

“We still encourage those with permits to utilize common sense and follow the safety guidelines as outlined on your burn permit,” Ponca Hills Fire Chief Joel Sacks said in an email Wednesday.

Wednesday morning’s announcement comes about a day after a storm system passed through the area, bringing some much needed precipitation. Wind gusts were expected to give way to warming sunshine Wednesday afternoon.

The upcoming forecast shows warmer temperatures Friday but a potential for showers in on Saturday, where highs will likely not make it into the 60s.
