Lawrence man sentenced for fentanyl-related death [Video]

A 32-year-old man has been sentenced to 56 months in prison for his involvement in the overdose death of a 33-year-old man in Lawrence.Randell Mark Smith entered a no-contest plea for charges of involuntary manslaughter and unlawful distribution of a controlled substance in connection with the fentanyl-related death in FebruarySmith’s charges stemmed from an incident in October 2021.According to court records, Lawrence police responded to an overdose call in the 1500 block of Pin Oak Drive, where the body of the unidentified 33-year-old was found. Autopsy results later confirmed fentanyl intoxication as the cause of death.Police later identified Smith as the distributor of the fentanyl-laced pill consumed by the overdose victim.Judge Stacey Donovan sentenced Smith to 41 months for the involuntary manslaughter conviction and 15 months for unlawful distribution of fentanyl.
