That’s my message to the consortiums that are trying to lure Major League Baseball and the National Hockey League teams to Utah. You’re embarrassing yourselves and Utah. Unlike “Field of Dreams,” if you build it, they won’t come. They don’t have to come here. Your juvenile campaign with billboards and social media posts do not impress the professional business people that run MLB and the NHL. In fact they have the reverse outcome. You look more like the desperate kids that post Tik Tok and Instagram pictures and videos with goofy signs asking a girl to prom.
The professionals who run these organizations have formulas, metrics and solid requirements for expansion team locations and approvals. Slick ad campaigns with conceptual drawings of a stadium in a bad location are not doing anything to help your cause. Neither will billboards and videos.
