My Experience as a Woman Entrepreneur [Video]

I get a lot of questions about my experience as a woman entrepreneur.

The greatest challenge I’ve faced as a tech founder was a universal one for women in the industry: venture capital funding. Only 2% of women founders in tech receive VC funding for their startups. Emily Chang’s book Brotopia gets into detail about the Ivy-to-Silicon Valley pipeline and VC bubble, and how they all fund each other while excluding everyone else, including women. This has implications across the board for both men and women who do not have access to this world.

How was I able to make it work as a female founder given the challenges? I bootstrapped my startup with the support and guidance of great mentors and partners. Asking for help when I needed it, turning to experts in my network, and knowing that I had the skills, knowledge, and experience to make my business successful kept me going even when I often found myself to be the only woman in the room.

And now I’m sharing what I’ve learned to ensure there are more women in each and every room.
