WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – The non-profit myFutureNC hosted leaders across education, government, and community at Cape Fear Community College on Thursday, Feb. 15, to share data and ideas on how to get more workers in the state.

The non-profit’s goal is to get at least 2 million North Carolinians with skilled certifications or degrees by 2030.

We talked to Senator Michael Lee about the need for various industries to work together to address the workforce gap.

“We knew the workforce challenges were coming and this group really is kind of pulling together everyone across the state to really see how we can best address those issues,” said Lee.

As of today, My-Future-NC is projected to fall nearly 7,000 workers short of its 2 million by 2030 goal.

Thursday’s brainstorming event was one of eight that happened across the state.
