Three days after drafting a rookie tackle, the Patriots are releasing a veteran offensive lineman.
On Monday, the Patriots announced that they released veteran offensive tackle Conor McDermott. This comes after the team drafted tackle Caedan Wallace at the top of the third round with pick 68 overall.
McDermott, 31, was a stopgap for the Patriots over the last two seasons. In 2023, he appeared in six games, making five starts at left tackle in place of Trent Brown. In 2022, he provided some stability to the Patriots offensive line when he started six games at right tackle.
That season, Belichick said of McDermott, “Thank God we have him. He’s done a good job. He’s been dependable and tough. He’s been out there, been durable.”
The Patriots drafted McDermott in the sixth round, pick 211, of the 2017 NFL Draft. He was cut that offseason and spent the first five seasons of his NFL career in the AFC East with the Buffalo Bills (2017-18) …
