PG&E calls for people to be aware of scamming | News [Video]

CHICO Calif. – PG&E received around 43,000 reports from customers who were targeted by scammers impersonating company employees and customers lost approximately $875,000 in fraudulent payments.

PG&E says they have had customers reporting scammers for years, but the numbers keep rising. 

Last Dec., they had 21 reported scams in Chico, 13 in Oroville and six in Redding.

“Unfortunately, utility customers are very frequently targeted by scammers, and that’s because nearly every household in business in the country relies on utility service for their gas and electric services. Scammers will spoof customers and tell them that their power or natural gas service is gonna be shut off immediately unless they make a payment over the phone usually with a prepaid card,” PG&E Spokesman Paul Moreno said.
