CHICO, Calif. – We are spotlighting a woman-owned Chico business for Women’s History Month. 

Pure Gold Studios is a jewelry, piercing and tattoo shop right next to Chico State and it’s owned by Cherie Spencer.

Spencer has a passion for piercing and jewelry. She started off working at other tattoo and piercing studios.

She says the way her male co-workers behaved toward her convinced her to take matters into her own hands. And that is why she opened up her shop.

“I was told that I needed to take all my Hello Kitty stuff done, and I just thought it was very weird that everybody else in the whole studio was allowed to have their own space and decorate it how they wanted it. Just if any other women are ever thinking …
